boat, cidomo rides, diving and snorkeling.Desa Dunia Beda, sheltered
within a whispering coconut grove on the island of Gili
Trawangan, near Lombok, is reminiscent of a small Javanese
village. The name reflects the concept, which was to create
a different world - one in keeping with tradition, in tune
with nature, and with accommodation that is simple yet
exotic.
The environmentally friendly wooden "Joglo" houses were
designed and built in Yogyakarta, in Java, and then
transported by boat to Gili Trawangan to be reconstructed on
site. Each Joglo is lovingly furnished with hand-carved
antique tables, screens, cupboards, ornate mirrors and
primitive artifacts. Open-weave lamps cast intricate
patterns over everything. Some of the villas boast
magnificent four-poster beds, built into the beams within
the central funnel of the roof. A set of antique double
doors leads into a sunny bathroom at the back, offering
total open-air privacy, partially sheltered by a roof.
