Lombok Network Team Visit to The Victim of The Floods in East Lombok

Sembalun Lawang (24/1/06)
On Tuesday January 24, 2006, a small team from Lombok Network visit Sembalun Bumbung to hand over donations as well as an inspection the victims of the recent Flood on 21/01/2006. The visit is intended to identify and investigate the real conditions of the victims/refugees.

Dozens of kids were so happy to welcome us. It was quite late visit, but the residents of Sembalun Bumbung were so happy to see the outsiders visiting their villages after a shocking incident of the floods that swept away some of the houses on Saturday 21/01/2006. The Kepala Desa (Chief of the village) warmly escorted us to visit the refugees camp and explain that they can't make any contact via phone since the main telephone towers are damaged by storm and lightning. In normal days, people of Sembalun used to be able to communicate via mobile phone (Pro XL and Telkomsel).

Lombok Network and its team decided to visit Sembalun Bumbung as we thought that most donations already sent out to Sambelia (other part), while Sembalun Bumbung were not being exposed by media.

Lombok Network Social & Charity Team hand over donations of food supplies, mineral waters, milk and biscuits for the victims of over 300 people in Sembalun Bumbung. These donations were collected from Lombok Network partners and sponsors.

On Saturday January 28th, Lombok network received some used blankets, bed covers, curtains from the Oberoi Hotel Bali to be distributed on Tuesday 31/01/2006. (Thanks to Pak I.B. Yudana, Pak Komang Wirawan and Baiq Fitriati (Becky) on behalf of people of Sembalun Bumbung East Lombok)

"We are hoping for donations in the form of medical supplies, mattresses and blankets because many victims can only cover themselves with sarongs to stay warm and are sleeping on thin sheets of paper," The chief of Sembalun Village said.
