Tourism Bounces Back in Lombok

WINGS AIR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Lombok Times (09/21/2004)

Now tourists enjoy access to Lombok like never before.

The long awaited inclusion of another domestic carrier to relieve the burden shouldered by Merpati Airlines, has now arrived.

Lion Air’s budget regional airline, Wings Air, commenced 4 return services to Denpasar daily this month, with the possibility of increasing to 6 flights before the end of this year.

Earlier this year, resulting from the cries of Tourism Operators, Lombok Sumbawa Promo identified the major problem Tourists have in getting to and from Lombok from Bali and realized the urgent need for more flight arrivals to Lombok.

Consequently Mr. H Achmad Akeang, the Head of Lombok Sumbawa promo initiated talks with the Governor of NTB Province Mr. H L Srinata and Mr. Munarto, the Mataram Airport Director, a few months ago about the dire position Lombok was in.

Mr. Akeang identified the immediate need to improve the transport of tourists to the Island and suggested an urgent court of action.

This meeting resulted in an approach to Lion Air about the possibility of commencing Mataram to Bali and return flights, on a regular daily basis with their regional carrier Wings Air.

Lion Airs Commercial Director and President Director of Wings Air based in Jakarta, Achmad, responded quickly and within a matter of weeks and with the cooperation of the Selaparang Airport and our Governor the new flight services was introduced.
