Senggigi has bays with white sandy beaches and safe swimming spots. The beach area in Senggigi can also provide spectacular sunsets, a look at the life of fishermen and their unusual, brightly coloured sailing boats, souvenirs or just sit back and enjoy sunshine, good food and cold drinks.

Further north from Senggigi are the majority of luxury hotels and boutique resorts situated on a spectacular coastline lined with rugged cliffs, inlets, and protected bays with sparkling blue lagoons. The waters and reefs here are great for swimming, snorkeling and sailing.

Batu Bolong Temple

This temple is on a rocky point which juts into the sea about a km south of Senggigi. The rock it sits on has natural hole in it which gives the temple its name - batu bolong (rock with hole). Being a Balinese temple, it's oriented towards Gunung Agung, Bali's holiest mountain, across Lombok Strait.

Legend says that beautiful virgin were once thrown into the sea from the rock. Fantastic view and good place to watch the sunsets.

 

Senggigi Outlook Points

Driving along the hilly coastline of Senggigi towards Bangsal - Gili Islands gives opportunities for tourists a spectacular photographs in all directions to the beaches, cliffs, sea pearls farm, and reefs, with background of the three gilis, or just looking down the stunning coconuts palm and quaint villages.

Hotspots for the photographers:

- Turn up Above the Sheraton Senggigi Beach Resort, spectacular view of Senggigi bay on panoramic scene.

- Further north near Klui, spectacular view of Klui Bay and Mangsit.

- Malimbu Outlook Point, great spot with background of the three gilis. If you come early, you can enjoy the group of fishermen returning from night fishing with its colourful sail boats.

Generally, however, the real attractions of Lombok are the landscapes, the people, and the relaxed pace of life, which you won't appreciate on whirlwind tour of the main 'sights'.

 

Surfing

Surfing enthusiast from all over the world descent on Bangko-bangko or known as desert point which has the reputation as one of the best surfing spots in the whole of the Asia Pacific region. Desert Point is Lombok's most famous break - a classic, fast, tubular left that runs forever like they're made by some wave machine. There's also a boat trip/yacht charter from Bali to reach this point. You can reach it by land but there's no regular transport and no visitor's facilities.

The southern and eastern coast of Lombok get the same swells that generate big breaks, but the main problem is getting to them. Other The main road access to those isolated places is only good for 4 wheels drives car. Gerupuk Bay in South Kuta Lombok, Mawun, Selong Blanak, and Ekas Bay are the common well known surfing spots in Lombok.

Surfing spot in Senggigi is located at the front of Senggigi Beach Hotel, known as Senggigi Reefs, popular spot for both locals and mature age surfers alike. It's quite uniqueand famous for its right and left break. The Senggigi reefs is a right on one side and left on the other as they head to shore. Senggigi reef is more fickle than South coast, having to draw the swell from the Lombok Straight, but when it's on, it's on and has deep tube rights and a fast moving left with a fast bowl section.

 

Diving & Snorkeling

There is a quite good snorkeling spots off the Senggigi Beach Hotel, and near Alang Alang Boutique Hotel in Kerandangan. For the more attractive snorkeling and diving spots, most people go to Gili Islands on an organized full day tour or overnight stay. New diving areas are still being explored on Lombok such as Gili Petangan, and other gilis in Easthern part of Lombok.
